Easter Celebration in Guatemala

For the celebration of Easter Week in Guatemala processions pass through the streets of the city, carrying a statue of Jesus of Nazareth bearing His cross. Each day the week, bearers, known as 'cucuruchos', carry a different processional platform on their shoulders over beautiful carpets made of rose petals and dyed sawdust. This celebration was inherited from Spain in the 16th Century.
